Overview

The main responsibility of the position is to fully manage trading on the department as well as planning future ranges to maximise sales opportunities and profit potential whilst minimising markdown spend. The Merchandiser will plan forward seasons, managing stock and OTB. They will manage margin and option count on the department and plan promotions and markdowns. They will also be responsible for managing and training their team in line with departmental and individual objectives. This is a role for someone who values depth of impact, commercial craft and long-term contribution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ownership of trading the department forecasting sales, managing linecards and placing repeats
  • Ownership of planning future ranges forecasting sales and range planning with Buying team in order to maximise sales opportunities
  • Ownership of planning system managing stock and OTB effectively
  • Producing and analysing weekly reports
  • Producing and analysing information for meetings including sign offs
  • Managing margin on the department, both intake margin and exit margin
  • Planning promotions and markdowns on the department
  • Planning intake on the department to ensure sales are maximised and stock flow is optimal as well as within warehouse weekly targets
  • Analysing past performance and driving SWOT analysis to build future strategies with the Buying team
  • Building strong working relationships with Buying, Supply Chain, Web, Social and wider support teams
  • Management of team and responsibility for team’s workload
  • Training and development of team in line with department and individual objectives
  • Presenting figures, providing information for meetings with senior management
  • Attend supplier meetings and develop relationships with suppliers
  • Plan options by grade to ensure stores don’t get over optioned

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience as a Junior Merchandiser/Merchandiser in a retail Head Office environment
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Advanced level Excel skills
  • Merchandise system experience advantageous
