About the role
As a Senior Medical Editor , you will work closely with team members to produce high-quality scientific content of medical communications and medical education that satisfy client needs.
You will be responsible for reviewing, copyediting and proofreading a wide range of scientific documents and materials for use in medical communications projects, with a focus on accuracy and clarity. You will also work with the editing team to manage account style guides and consult with account scientific leads on specific style questions.
Responsibilities
- Review and edit content, including manuscripts, reports, abstracts, presentations, posters, digital content and other medical communications and education deliverables
- Check for grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors, and make necessary corrections
- Suggest changes to improve the clarity and flow of content
- Proofread content, including review of page proofs and line-by-line checks of typeset layouts
- Ensure that the content adheres to appropriate style and tone
- Review artworked graphs and figures for accuracy and adherence to appropriate style
- Ensure consistency is maintained both within and between projects according to style guides
- Verify facts and figures in the content against marked-up references to ensure accuracy and consistency
- Develop and maintain account style guides
- Work closely with other team members, including editors, writers, scientific leads, designers, typesetters and client services personnel
- Meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure
- Participate in internal editorial meetings, contributing to the development of editorial workflow and providing insights on editorial processes
- Manage time effectively to deliver projects to a high quality, on time and within budget, highlighting potential delays to the appropriate team members
Education, experience and skills

Essential
- Bachelor of Arts in English or a Bachelor of Science in a Life Science
Desirable
- Higher degree (MSc or PhD)
Experience:

- Extensive experience as a copyeditor/technical editor/proofreader within medical communication agencies or the pharmaceutical/healthcare industry
Skills:
Essential
- Excellent copyediting skills with a strong command of grammar, spelling and punctuation, as well as the ability to revise and improve written content to ensure clarity and coherence
- Proficient scientific editing skills with fact-checking ability to verify facts and figures in the content to ensure accuracy
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, identifying and correcting errors, inconsistencies and inaccuracies, as well as ensuring that content adheres to established style guides and tone
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A proactive and flexible team player with a collaborative approach
- Adaptable with an ability to work on a variety of projects, styles and therapeutic areas
- Organised and skilled in time management
- Highly computer literate and skilled in using common software (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, EndNote reference management tool) and gains new software skills quickly

- Experience with industry-wide guidelines and editorial styles (eg, AMA style)
