About the Role
The Publishing Director role is a key strategic component of the Springer Journals portfolio structure. You will be responsible for driving and managing the strategic growth and development of a global portfolio of journals, and both contributing to and articulating our strategy. You will contribute to and help drive the overall success of the publishing unit by managing, developing and nurturing a team of individuals. You will create an environment to successfully engage with external editors and editorial board members, attract the best authors, and to deliver the publishing programme in a timely and efficient manner. The position is offered on a full-time permanent basis.
Role responsibilities:
- Create a positive and energetic team environment, providing trusted management in which your team are engaged, can learn and develop and understand what is expected and the value of their contribution to the business.
- Drive the editorial and publishing development of a portfolio of journals.
- Understand and engage regularly with external editors and the research communities that your journals serve.
- Understand and engage regularly with society/institutional publishing partners.
- Ensure implementation of strategy and new policies, workflows, systems and processes.
- Contribute to the wider Springer Journals division, taking part in cross-departmental projects and/or company-wide task forces and working groups.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience of leading a team within a scientific/academic publishing environment.
- Excellent management and communication skills.
- Excellent leadership and team-building qualities.
- Excellent English language skills.
- Proven experience of translating market opportunities into profitable business models.
- Thorough understanding of the research or scientific process as it pertains to publishing.
- Thorough understanding of the needs of editors, authors and referees as key customers.
- Strong analytical and commercial skills.
- Enthusiasm and passion for excellence in research and science.
- Educated to a minimum of degree level or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field of study.
