About the Role

The Senior Workday Core HCM Specialist will be the lead subject matter expert for Workday Core HCM with a primary focus on process optimization, data quality and validation, and automated document generation. This role will own existing end-to-end Workday HCM processes, design and enforce data validation frameworks, drive continuous process improvements, and deliver high-quality operational documentation and generated outputs (offer letters, contracts, reports). The specialist will partner closely with HR, Payroll, IT, vendors and downstream system owners to ensure Workday is configured and operated to deliver accurate, auditable, and scalable HR services.

Responsibilities:

  • Workday Core HCM Ownership — Lead design, configuration and maintenance of Core HR (Employee Lifecycle) business processes to enhance data accuracy and usability.
  • Process Optimization — Map current-state processes, identify inefficiencies, design streamlined Workday-driven processes, and implement automation (including document generation) to reduce manual work and error rates.
  • Data Quality and Validation — Define and implement data governance rules, validation checks, reconciliation routines and exception handling across Workday and downstream systems.
  • Document Generation and Templates — Design, build and maintain document generation templates and automated outputs (e.g., offer letters, employment contracts, HR reports) ensuring consistency, compliance and localization where required.
  • Reporting and Analytics — Create advanced Workday reports and dashboards that surface data quality metrics, process KPIs and audit trails; use calculated fields and transformations to support validation logic.
  • Testing and Release Management — Lead end-to-end testing for configuration changes, business process updates and Workday releases; manage change control and rollback plans.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration — Act as the primary liaison between HR functional sponsors, IT, vendors and external partners to translate business requirements into robust system specifications.
  • Operational Excellence — Maintain runbooks, SOPs and documentation for processes, validations and generated documents; coach and upskill HR operations teams on best practices.
  • Continuous Improvement — Monitor Workday release notes, evaluate new features for process enablement, and drive adoption of enhancements that improve data integrity and automation.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven Workday expertise: Extensive hands-on experience with Workday Core HCM configuration, business process framework, complex calculated fields, and report writing.
  • Data governance experience: Demonstrable track record implementing data validation frameworks, reconciliation processes and data remediation programs.
  • Document generation skills: Experience building and maintaining automated document templates and generation processes within Workday or integrated document engines.
  • Technical fluency: Strong understanding of Workday business object model, integrations concepts, and ability to collaborate with integration engineers and vendors.
  • Analytical and testing capability: Advanced analytical skills with experience designing test plans, UAT, regression testing and documenting results.
  • Communication and leadership: Excellent stakeholder management, presentation and written communication skills; ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree in HR, IT, Computer Science or related field preferred; 5+ years Workday Core HCM experience with progressive responsibility.
