Nature Portfolio is home to the leading, international weekly journal of science, Nature - founded in 1869. About the Role

Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn't enough to sate your desire to learn more about scientific research? Do you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research? If the answer is 'yes' to any or all these questions, you could be the person we're looking for to join the Nature Portfolio editorial team. To help us build on the success of the portfolio, we're seeking an editor with experience in geophysics who has a critical eye, a deep understanding of their subject and interests beyond, and who can think on their feet. Knowledge of seismology, tectonics, geodynamics, and natural hazards would be desirable as would interests in glaciology and geomorphology.

Nature Geoscience is a monthly online and print journal that publishes the very best research from across the Earth and planetary sciences. The aim of this highly selective title is to understand Earth's history and its future evolution through publication of primary research, synthesis, news and opinion-type articles from across the broad spectrum of geosciences, encompassing field work, modelling and theoretical studies.

The location(s) strategy supports team structure and aligns business needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Manuscript Assessment and Critical Scientific Evaluation - Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
  • Decision Quality - Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
  • Scientific Comprehension - Contributing to content and strategy in this area at Nature Geoscience.
