About the role

The Director of Publishing Performance Strategy will partner with colleagues in Research Publishing and stakeholders across Springer Nature to enable the shared objective of growing more good quality articles, especially focused on the Open Access market. You will be comfortable working across multiple teams and will support the creation and delivery of high-level strategy across key themes including Content Retention, Content Attraction, and Researcher Engagement.

This role is offered on a permanent basis and can be located in our Berlin, Dordrecht, Heidelberg or London offices on a hybrid working model.

Role Responsibilities:

  1. Develop strategy and linked roadmap for Springer Nature to ensure more of the authors who choose to submit to us find a place to publish within our portfolio.
  2. Identify, quantify and monitor high-level Content Retention opportunities.
  3. Maintain Content Retention performance overview, aligning teams around the opportunity and tracking progress.
  4. Understand how primary drivers interact within one another and how we can be more effective at attracting content to our journals while ensuring compliance with the set and to be defined quality requirements.
  5. Help teams across publishing, marketing, digital and operations, to coordinate and work towards common goals.
  6. Understand how we can attribute our submissions and which levers have the greatest impact and return on investment.
  7. Create strategies to utilise Editorial Models to drive growth.
  8. Ensure our platforms attract and support researchers and provide a point of difference.
  9. Ensure our Research Engagement strategies support our clear goals around Content Retention and Content Attraction.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Experience within STM publishing or science communication
  2. Strategy consultancy, implementation planning and execution
  3. Storytelling – ability to translate stakeholder input to aligned and integrated strategy communication
  4. Excellent management and communication skills
  5. Excellent leadership and team-building qualities
  6. Thorough understanding of the scientific process as it pertains to STM publishing within its technology landscape
  7. Thorough understanding of the needs of authors, referees and external editors
  8. Strong analytical skills and the ability to formulate and deliver strategies
