About the Role
Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry (MCBI) is looking to recruit an Associate or Senior Editor with a strong background in research and ideally some editorial experience. As an Associate or Senior Editor, you will be responsible for leading the journal\’s editorial strategy to grow the journal and managing a diverse and efficient Editorial Board, as well as handling manuscripts as necessary.
The position is offered on a full-time permanent basis and is located in our London office on a hybrid working basis.
Role responsibilities
- Lead a team of external Editors and work closely with them on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning, and overseeing peer review to preserve the scientific integrity of the journal.
- Editorial evaluation of manuscripts and peer review of suitable manuscripts, with the majority of manuscripts peer reviewed by the Editorial Board.
- Manage article workflow for the journal to ensure timely peer review of manuscripts.
- Ensure all content published in the journal matches quality expectations and covers the spectrum of research in the journal\’s scope.
- Develop the journal\’s content in ways that are appropriate to the audience, that will strengthen its impact, and that will support Springer\’s strategic aims.
- Ensure maximum engagement with the Editorial Board at all levels to maintain efficient manuscript handling, drive editorial board recruitment, and engage them with the strategy and development of your journals.
- Host regular Senior Board and Editorial Board Meetings, either in person or online.
- Liaise with the scientific community through institutional visits and international conferences.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to PhD level or equivalent, with a strong research background in relevant fields including biochemistry, molecular/cellular biology, pharmacology, physiology
- Previous editorial experience
- A broad knowledge and understanding of the topics the journal covers
- A keen interest in research both within and beyond your specialty
- The ability to absorb and understand new areas of research
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
- Commercial awareness and a positive attitude to change
- Willingness to travel globally
Desirable
- Postdoctoral experience is a bonus
