Spring Educational Society is seeking an experienced and highly organised Director of Operations to oversee the organisation's day-to-day administration, financial management, governance, and operational development.

Job Description

The successful candidate will work closely with the Board of Trustees to ensure the charity operates efficiently, complies with UK Charity Commission requirements, maintains accurate financial records, and supports the delivery of educational and community programmes.

This senior leadership position requires excellent organisational, administrative, financial and communication skills.

  • Governance & Administration
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Society.
  • Prepare reports for the Board of Trustees.
  • Organise Board meetings and prepare agendas and minutes.
  • Ensure compliance with Charity Commission regulations and organisational policies.
  • Maintain organisational records and official documentation.
  • Coordinate strategic planning and organisational development.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and bookkeeping.
  • Prepare budgets and monitor organisational expenditure.
  • Process invoices, payments and expense claims.
  • Liaise with accountants, auditors and banks.
  • Produce financial reports for Trustees.
  • Monitor project budgets and funding allocations.
  • Draft and manage official correspondence.
  • Prepare funding applications and grant documentation.
  • Communicate with government agencies, educational institutions, local authorities and partner organisations.
  • Prepare contracts, agreements and administrative documents.
  • Operational Management
  • Coordinate educational projects and community programmes.
  • Monitor project implementation and reporting.
  • Develop administrative systems and operational procedures.
  • Support recruitment and HR administration where required.
  • Manage suppliers and external service providers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build relationships with schools, universities, charities and community organisations.
  • Represent Spring Educational Society at meetings and networking events.
  • Support partnership development and fundraising initiatives.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Finance, Education, or a related field.
  • Significant experience in operations, administration or organisational management.
  • Experience in financial administration and bookkeeping.
  • Strong report writing and official correspondence skills.
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Understanding of governance and compliance within charities or non-profit organisations.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Qualifications

Ph D in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Education, Leadership or a related discipline.

  • Professional qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Charity Management.
  • Experience working within UK charities, educational institutions or community organisations.
  • Experience preparing grant applications and managing funded projects.
  • Knowledge of UK Charity Commission regulations.
  • Experience managing organisational budgets.
  • Experience in higher education administration.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
  • Knowledge of CRM, accounting software (Xero, Quick Books, Sage) and Microsoft 365.
