The APAC Accounting Hub in Singapore plays a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong compliance, and smooth coordination across markets. As part of Spotify’s global Finance team, we support a fast-growing, cross-border business that operates with speed, accountability, and high standards. We’re looking for a highly self‑motivated Senior Accountant to serve as the day‑to‑day Japan finance point of contact while supporting broader APAC reporting. This role is ideal for someone who is hands‑on, structured, and comfortable operating in a lean, fast‑paced environment with cross‑border complexity. You’ll help embed Japanese language capability within the APAC team and partner with regional and global stakeholders across Finance and other functions as needed.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the Japan finance point of contact within the APAC Accounting Hub, coordinating and escalating finance‑related matters as needed.
- Own Japan reporting, statutory filings, accounting controls and compliance timelines.
- Partner with global Tax, Treasury, Legal, and APAC Accounting teams on Japan‑related operational and compliance matters.
- Coordinate with Japan Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) provider on local execution processes, including WHT documentation, Japan tax office communications, Japan Citibank‑related paper documentation, and physical submissions.
- Review and validate Japan statutory financial information and ensure alignment between IFRS and local GAAP reporting where required.
- Interpret feedback or notices from Japan tax authorities and external service providers, assess impact, and coordinate follow‑up actions internally.
- Prepare and support consolidated APAC reporting during close cycles, statutory filings and related audit requirements for designated APAC entities as needed.
- Perform variance analysis and follow up on key issues identified across Japan and APAC reporting.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual dependencies, and improve coordination efficiency.
- Participate in regional and global calls as required (night calls expected at not more than 5% of work time depending on close cycles and projects).
- Contribute to special projects, system enhancements, and ad hoc analyses as assigned.
Who You Are
- Minimum 5+ years related accounting operations experience within a multinational company, ideally in a technology or fast‑paced environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA, CA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Strong understanding of IFRS and exposure to local statutory reporting.
- Experience coordinating with external service providers such as audit firms, tax agents, BPO providers.
- Business‑level Japanese (spoken and written) and strong professional English communication skills are required.
- Technically proficient with ERP systems and MS Office including advanced Excel skills.
- Strong analytical and communication skills across all levels.
- Comfortable managing cross‑functional and external stakeholder coordination and navigating cross‑cultural communication.
- Thrive in lean teams, take ownership of your work, and remain adaptable in evolving environments.
Where You’ll Be
This role is based in Singapore and follows our hybrid work model, with an expectation of 2–3 days per week in the office.
