Backend Engineer, Platform Developer Experience

Location London Job type Permanent About the Role Continuous Integration (CI) is the heartbeat of the developer experience. Spotify\’s growth has brought us close to operational limits, necessitating improvements in our stack and automation of workflows to continue providing flawless builds, insights, and rapid iteration. This role involves creating and owning the CI infrastructure for Spotify, aiming to deliver a streamlined, user-friendly, and safe build experience at scale. Operational responsibility for systems and collaboration with CI vendors and cloud providers are also key aspects. The role is based in the Platform Developer Experience (PDX) Studio within the Platform Mission, overseeing infrastructure across all engineering disciplines at Spotify. What You\’ll Do Implement Spotify’s future CI infrastructure strategy to support 3,000+ engineers performing hundreds of thousands of builds daily Design, develop, deploy, and operate services enhancing the developer experience Collaborate with Infrastructure teams to define what constitutes outstanding CI infrastructure Drive automation and improvements across our current technical stacks Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering staff Scale CI infrastructure to support automated systems and mass changes across services Deliver high-quality, maintainable, and testable code, taking operational responsibility for developed components Who You Are An experienced Software Engineer with Java; familiarity with NodeJS, Python, shell scripting; Go is a bonus Experienced with deploying and implementing solutions in Kubernetes Committed to iteration, valuing the right solution over the first Focused on standardization and automation, always seeking to improve developer experience 4+ years of experience building and implementing large-scale systems across projects and teams Knowledge and enthusiasm for software engineering best practices such as testing, CI, and CD Where You\’ll Be This role is based in London Flexible work arrangements, including remote work with some in-person meetings Benefits Extensive learning opportunities through our dedicated team, GreenHouse Flexible share incentives Six months of fully paid parental leave for all new parents Employee assistance program and self-care resources Flexible public holidays and swap days off About Spotify We are committed to diversity and inclusion, welcoming everyone regardless of background.
