We are seeking Freelance CAD Technicians to support the Store Planning team at Steve Ritchie Partnership, an experienced, client-focused architectural practice known for its practical and thoughtful approach to design. This opportunity offers flexible, long-term freelance work supporting store planning projects within the food retail sector. The work is process-driven and involves using an AutoCAD plug-in, primarily to update and amend 2D store layouts, tasks that require accuracy, diligence, and attention to detail rather than advanced CAD experience.

Following initial in-person training at our London studio, you can work remotely, providing support on live projects as and when required. Some weeks may be quiet, while others could involve 10-12 hours of work or more. We are looking to build an ongoing, trusted network of freelancers who enjoy flexible, consistent collaboration.

What We Are Looking For:

  • You should be a practical, detail-orientated individual with a CV that highlights:
  • Basic proficiency in CAD & Excel (professional or academic experience).
  • A methodical, process-driven approach and commitment to accuracy.
  • Confidence working independently and managing your own time.
  • Strong communication skills (fluent English, written and spoken).
  • Eligibility to work and reside permanently in the UK.

Previous experience in AutoCAD, Store Planning or Retail Design is welcome but not essential; full training will be provided.

Key Details:

  • Training rate: from £12.50 per hour, increasing by around £2.50 per hour once fully trained and working independently on live projects.
  • Flexible hours and remote working after initial onboarding.
  • Workload varies week to week, ideal for those balancing other clients or commitments.
  • Self-employed engagement, managing your own tax and availability.
  • UK-based only; applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK.

This arrangement is perfect for those seeking flexible, home-based work that fits around other projects or personal commitments, while building a long-term working relationship with a professional architectural team. If interested, please send your CV and a brief example of your CAD work (PDF, max 10MB).
