The successful candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of athlete monitoring and performance data, using objective and subjective information to inform decision-making, optimise training prescription, monitor player readiness, manage training load, and support interdisciplinary performance planning. They will be confident interpreting and communicating complex data to coaches, medical staff and players, translating insights into practical interventions that improve current practice, enhance performance and reduce injury risk.

This role will have various key elements to it, these being:

  • Lead the collection, analysis and interpretation of physical performance data, integrating information from GPS, gym-based testing and other athlete monitoring systems to inform daily practice.
  • A strong understanding of match and training data, its context, and the ability to report insights to relevant key stakeholders.
  • The ability to deliver pitch and gym-based sessions to players on a team and individual basis.

Further aspects to the role are to contribute to the research and development of the sports science and medical department through attendance and delivery of CPD, and providing match day sports science support as required. As a result, the role requires an individual who is able to perform such hours as necessary to complete their roles and responsibilities, which will require travel and the working of unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays.

  • Collect, analyse, and interpret physiological, biomechanical, and performance data.
  • Monitor training load, fatigue, wellness, and recovery using appropriate technologies.
  • Produce clear reports and provide evidence-based recommendations to coaches and support staff.
  • Support the planning and evaluation of training interventions to optimise performance.
  • Assist with return-to-performance planning following injury in collaboration with medical and rehabilitation teams.
  • Maintain accurate athlete records and ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Stay current with emerging research, technologies, and best practice within performance science.
  • Contribute to research projects and innovation initiatives where appropriate.
  • Assist in the delivery of on-field physical warm-ups (if applicable).
  • Delivery of individual on-pitch sessions (if applicable).
  • Assist in gym-based delivery during team activation and training sessions.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the first team gym and relevant spaces.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the sports science and medical department through attending and delivering CPD events.
