Work-based benefits include:

Work pattern: 37.5 hours a week, including some evenings, 52 weeks.

Job Purpose: The role of a Sports Connect sports tutor is to inspire, motivate and educate young people aged 16-19 (25 with an EHCP). You will plan, deliver and assess students against the relevant specification documents, guided by the NCFE framework and the City and Guilds functional skills curriculum. The tutor must understand safeguarding and be enthusiastic about developing their practice further. In addition to high-quality sports education, English and Maths, tutors are expected to teach our carefully designed PSHE curriculum, ensuring a broad, enriched curriculum for our students. Tutors will communicate with parents and carers regularly, sharing progress, concerns, achievement and targets, so students feel continually supported both at home and in education.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the electronic registration system is updated daily by 9:15am, reporting any missing data with the FLO immediately.
  • Use PPA time effectively, ensuring creative and engaging lessons are planned and ready for delivery.
  • Deliver high-quality theory-based and practical sports-focused sessions that engage all students and allow all to access the minimum required amount of exercise a week.
  • Plan and deliver functional skills Maths and English lessons daily, supporting students through entry level, level 1 and level 2 functional skills.
  • Plan and deliver a PSHE curriculum relevant to our young people.
  • Monitor and assess students’ progress over time, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and making adaptations where necessary to allow all students to thrive.
  • Adapt each lesson to meet the needs of individuals.
  • Know each student thoroughly, updating the student’s provision map each term and communicating their progress against targets regularly.
  • Provide career advice and support to students, mentoring them as they seek paid employment, higher education or work experience.
  • Contribute to staff meetings and actively participate in our extensive staff training programme.

Safeguarding: Sports Connect is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults. The candidate’s ability to perform duties aligned to safeguarding and Prevent strategies will be explored during the interview process. A Sports Connect DBS will be carried out if offered the role. An enhanced DBS no older than 3 months is desirable.

Education, qualifications, training and work experience:

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4 and above, including Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • A relevant Sports qualification that demonstrates passion for sport.
  • Relevant BTEC, NCFE or A level qualification.
  • Experience working within education.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding, or a willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrable skills in leading a team of staff effectively.
  • A strong understanding of Maths and English GCSE.
  • Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Computer literate.

  • Have access to own transport and be able to travel to multiple venues.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Relevant undergraduate degree (e.g. sport or education).
  • Industry recognised coaching qualifications in coaching or training.
  • Experience working within further education.
  • Qualification or training in safeguarding.
  • Experience managing a team effectively.
  • Enthusiastic and approachable, caring and considerate of others, and eager to progress.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Google Drive.
  • Knowledge of internal communication systems – Slack, Trello.
