About the Role: We are seeking a Senior FinOps Engineer (Cloud Financial Operations) to strengthen our FinOps practice across visibility, optimisation, and governance of our public cloud spend. This role acts as the operational anchor for cloud cost management, ensuring strong efficiency and forecasting discipline while advancing tagging, allocation, and commitment strategy across a multi-million-euro cloud estate. The position sits at the intersection of engineering, finance, and platform teams, translating complex cloud usage and billing data into clear, actionable insight and driving accountability for cost across the organisation. It is well suited to someone who is analytically minded, technically fluent in cloud architecture, and comfortable operating in a fast-moving, data-driven environment. This role is ideal for a FinOps or cloud engineering professional with a strong interest in cloud economics and optimisation, who enjoys turning cost data into measurable efficiency gains and embedding cost-aware decision-making into how engineering builds and runs services.
The Challenge:
- Own cloud cost visibility end to end — maintaining and improving tagging, allocation, and showbacks so that spend is accurately attributed to teams, products, and services.
- Drive rate optimisation across the estate: commitment management, Reserved Instances, and Savings Plans strategy (including RDS), balancing coverage against flexibility.
- Build and maintain FinOps reporting, dashboards, and tooling that turn cloud billing data into actionable insight for engineering, finance, and leadership.
- Improve forecasting accuracy and support budgeting, working closely with finance partners to make cloud spend predictable.
- Identify and drive workload optimisation and waste reduction, partnering with engineering teams to act on rightsizing, scheduling, and architecture opportunities.
- Define and track cloud efficiency KPIs, and embed cost-aware engineering into design and delivery so cost is considered before spend is committed.
- Investigate cost anomalies and act as the go‑to expert for cloud cost questions across the organisation.
About you:
- Several years of experience in a FinOps, Cloud Financial Management, or closely related cloud/technology finance role.
- Solid understanding of public cloud architecture (preferably AWS) and how design decisions drive cost.
- Hands-on experience with cloud cost management, including tagging governance, allocation, and commitment/discount instruments (Reserved Instances, Savings Plans).
- Strong analytical skills — able to interpret complex usage and billing data, spot patterns and anomalies, and recommend clear actions.
- Experience with FinOps or BI tooling; scripting (e.g. Python) for reporting and automation is a plus.
- Ability to communicate cost insight effectively to both technical and financial stakeholders and to drive accountability across teams.
Our Offer: A pivotal role with genuine ownership of a multi-million-euro cloud estate, where your work translates directly into measurable efficiency and business impact. Being part of a small, highly motivated, and specialised team where your contribution is visible and makes a real difference. A modern, data-driven engineering environment with exposure to large-scale cloud infrastructure and current tooling. Support for your professional development, including FinOps Foundation certification and relevant training.
