This is a senior, hands-on leadership role for someone ready to own the voice of a club, build a media operation that performs under pressure, and help shape how a passionate football community connects with its team.
The Role
Reporting to the Commercial & Operations Director, you'll take full ownership of the club's media and communications function, leading everything from day-to-day content and digital output to strategic narrative, media relations, and matchday operations. You’ll set the standards, manage the team, and be the primary point of contact for all media activity, including accreditations, press conferences, and real-time coverage across home and away fixtures. You'll work closely with colleagues in football, commercial, community, and academy departments to ensure messaging is consistent, credible, and commercially aware. This is a role for a self-starter who thrives in a fast-moving environment, makes confident decisions quickly, and takes genuine pride in getting things right.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the club's media team, including staff, freelancers, and volunteers
- Build and deliver a communications strategy aligned with the club's objectives and tone of voice
- Drive matchday media operations, both home and away, to a consistently high standard
- Manage all media relations, including local, regional, and national press
- Oversee content across social media, the club website, and all digital channels
- Support commercial partners through integrated content and campaign activity
- Provide communications counsel to senior leadership, including on sensitive or high-profile matters
- Ensure strong, visible coverage of the Men's, Women's, and Academy programmes
- Monitor performance across digital and media activity, reporting regularly to leadership
What We're Looking For
- Experience in a media, communications, or content role within professional sport or a similarly demanding environment
- Proven ability to create and deliver high-quality content across video, photography, and digital platforms
- Strong understanding of social media, content trends, and audience engagement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Composure under pressure, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at pace
- Full UK driving licence and availability to attend all home and away fixtures
- Experience in a professional football environment (National League, EFL, or similar)
- Familiarity with content tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere Pro, or Canva
- Experience supporting commercial partnerships through content delivery
- Degree-level qualification in Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related discipline
The Package
Salary is dependent on experience. The club operates a TOIL system in recognition of matchday and evening commitments.
