We are Spliced Inc. and we’re looking for a Principal Mechanics Design Engineer.

The Role

You will be part of an innovative new project, working alongside a talented and passionate team on an original IP to create a world class online gameplay experience that will surprise and excite players. You will play a critical role in building the memorable moments and compelling gameplay that will help redefine what a game is and how players interact with it.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As part of the Design department, use scripting and Unreal Engine Blueprints to develop exciting and compelling game mechanics and systems, taking them from prototypes to a polished, shippable state.
  • Take ownership of these gameplay elements all the way through from inception and prototyping to release.
  • Proactively identify and fix issues in your own work, in addition to fixing bugs identified by other developers / QA.
  • Act as a point person for a particular area of the game, with deep technical and design knowledge of your area for other designers and members of other departments to consult.
  • Be a pioneer for the team when trying out new technical approaches, with the ability to proactively solve problems and self-research the required information for you to progress, and report your findings to the team.
  • Organize and assist in the creation of design documentation for the work your team will work on, ensuring that it is detailed and accurate, and that your experience suggests that the proposed game elements will be robust, fun and compelling for the player.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that any bugs or issues that require addressing are communicated effectively, and that the Design department is aware of any requirements from others.

About You

  • Experience shipping a AAA title as a Senior.
  • 5+ years of professional programming or scripting experience on multi-discipline teams.
  • 5+ years of experience working with Unreal Engine 4+, with extensive knowledge of UE blueprints and animation notifiers.
  • Experience with working on combat mechanics and systems.
  • Passionate about creating games and delivering the highest quality gameplay for players.
  • Bonus points if you’ve experience working on vehicle-based gameplay and systems.
  • Bonus points if you’ve experience with Unreal camera mode systems.
  • Bonus points if you’ve developed some mentoring or leadership skills.
