Same-Day Courier Controller — Job Description
Location: Leyland Employment type: Full-time Salary: £28k to £33K
About the role
We’re looking for an organised, quick-thinking Same-Day Courier Controller to coordinate urgent deliveries from collection through to proof of delivery. You’ll match jobs to drivers, keep customers updated and respond calmly when plans change.
Key responsibilities
- Receive and prioritise same-day delivery requests.
- Assign jobs to suitable drivers based on location, availability, vehicle and delivery requirements.
- Track deliveries and keep customers and colleagues informed of progress.
- Handle delays, route changes, failed collections and other issues promptly.
- Check delivery details, addresses and special instructions for accuracy.
- Record job updates and maintain clear, accurate delivery paperwork and system records.
- Liaise with drivers, customers and internal teams throughout each job.
- Support efficient vehicle and driver utilisation while maintaining high service standards.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in courier operations, transport coordination, dispatch or a similar fast-paced role.
- Strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple jobs at once.
- Clear, confident communication by phone, email and messaging.
- Good judgement under time pressure and a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Confidence using computers, tracking systems and spreadsheets.
- A customer-focused attitude and careful attention to detail.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including [evenings / weekends], if required.
