Freelance Project Manager – Engineering / Machinery
We’re looking for an experienced freelance Project Manager to help us deliver larger engineering and machinery projects.
This is not a “learn on the job” role. We need someone who has managed projects like this before, understands what good looks like, and can take control from order through to installation and handover.
You’ll be the link between the customer and our workshop team — keeping everyone clear on the plan, the priorities, the paperwork and progress.
What you’ll be doing
- Managing larger projects from start to finish
- Liaising directly with customers, suppliers, site teams and our workshop
- Working with the Workshop Team Leader to build realistic schedules and keep them on track
- Monitoring progress, identifying issues early and driving actions through
- Compiling project documentation, including manuals, technical files and handover information
- Managing site-specific notifications, permissions and requirements
- Attending customer, office and site meetings as needed
- Ensuring machinery compliance requirements are properly covered, including the Machinery Directive and CE marking
What we need
- Proven experience managing engineering, manufacturing, plant or machinery-installation projects
- A solid understanding of Machinery Directive requirements and CE marking
- Experience dealing with site paperwork, permissions, RAMS and project documentation
- The confidence to deal with customers professionally and keep projects moving
- Someone organised, practical and straight-talking
We’re not looking for a “have-a-go hero” or someone who thinks they could probably do it. We need somebody who has done it, can demonstrate it, and is still capable of getting stuck in.
Location is flexible, but ideally you’ll be within sensible reach of Northampton so you can come into the office when needed. Our projects are delivered across the UK, so you’ll need to be happy travelling to customer sites and meetings when required.
