Spirit Level Youth Construction provides training programmes, leading to qualifications traineeships and improved employment prospects for BAME young men aged (16-24), within Lambeth, who are not currently in any form of education, employment or training (NEETs).
What difference will you make?
Your input will assist in shaping the training packages that will be available to our service users, stakeholders, funders and the general public. Your knowledge will help direct our board, volunteers and partners with much needed information about providing the best ways of working and most inclusive services/activities to assist our end users. Your experience and the advice you provide will enable us to develop SLYC, in order to empower our young people to succeed in gaining qualifications, finding employment, or to continue with further/higher education. Your building and trades/construction 'know-how' will ensure the continued community work on our planned projects is amplified and sustainable. Your construction expertise will assist in planning the best use of the building.
What are we looking for?
We are seeking someone with a passion for and long-standing construction skills experience/qualifications in various building disciplines; who is able to give the board the benefit of their expertise by advising on construction matters in as many areas as possible, i.e.:
- Solar Panel Installation
- Kitchen Fitting
- Bricklaying
- Security Systems Installation
- Plastering
- Tiling
- Painting & Decorating
- Carpentry & Joinery
- Gas Engineering
- Plumbing
- Electrical Installations
- Welding
What will you be doing?
Our Ideal Candidate Will Be Someone Who:
- Has knowledge & experience of several different building disciplines
- Has some knowledge of the Lambeth area and the demographic we will be serving
- Has an affinity with and ability to connect with the particular section of society our organisation is focused on
As a young and developing organisation, we are looking for an individual who shares our vision and mission enough to spend the necessary time and effort on this critical activity; to help facilitate the success of our future builders. SLYC's helping to train the next generation of tradespeople i.e., plumbers, carpenters, gas-heating engineers, electrical installers, solar panel installers, etc.
If you are someone who has in the past, or are currently running a business and is able to come on board in an advisory role - we would like to speak with you. You will be working with the CEO/Founder of SLYC Joanne Jarrett and be supported by the Chair and other Trustees.
