Purpose Of Job:
The Product Safety Manager will report directly to the Quality Assurance manager but will have direct access to the Accountable Manager(s) for matters in relation to the organisation’s product safety performance against its product safety policy and objectives. The Product Safety Manager will execute all Safety Management System (SMS) investigations and will be the primary source of guidance for site leadership in respect of SMS. They will also be company nominated post-holder for direct interaction with the regulatory authorities (eg CAA, EASA) and others for all matters pertaining to SMS.
Responsibilities:
- To facilitate hazard identification, as well as risk assessment and management.
- Monitor the implementation of action taken to mitigate risks, as listed in the safety action plan, unless action follow-up is addressed by the independent monitoring function.
- Provide periodic reports on product safety performance to the safety review board.
- Ensure the maintenance of safety management documentation.
- Ensure that there is product safety training available, and that it meets acceptable standards. Also ensure that there is a suitable training plan for all employees.
- Provide advice on product safety matters.
- Ensure the initiation and follow‑up of internal investigations of occurrences.
- Engage with the regulatory authorities (eg CAA, EASA) and others for all matters pertaining to SMS.
Qualifications:
Candidate Requirements: It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that sufficient detail is provided on the application form to demonstrate how the applicant meets essential job criteria, as this alone will be used for vetting purposes.
Essential Criteria:
- HNC or equivalent qualification in a business or engineering discipline AND at least 5 years’ quality experience in an Industrial/Engineering environment including relevant supervisory/leadership experience.
- Candidates must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of Quality Management Systems and a good awareness of Safety Management Systems.
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience of direct engagement with customers and regulatory bodies.
- Practical knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS).
- Relevant experience in an Aerospace Engineering environment.
