Leasehold & Debt Litigation Solicitor sought on behalf of a reputable law firm in Berkshire for a Locum contract. This is a 3-month locum assignment, starting ASAP, with the possibility of extension. The role is suited to a confident fee earner who can hit the ground running with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of debt litigation matters in the County Court, including drafting particulars of claim, issuing proceedings, and corresponding with defendants' representatives.
  • Handle First-tier Tribunal landlord and tenant matters, including service charge disputes and leasehold management proceedings.
  • Provide expert advice to residential and commercial clients on debt recovery, enforcement, and leasehold matters.
  • Conduct case management hearings and tribunal appearances where required.
  • Manage defended First-tier Tribunal proceedings, including responding to applications, preparing hearing bundles, and representing or instructing counsel at substantive hearings.
  • Liaise with clients, counsel, and court staff in a professional and timely manner.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified solicitor with experience in debt litigation and landlord and tenant law, or a related contentious property practice (equivalent qualifications considered, including CILEX Fellows).
  • Demonstrable experience of County Court debt litigation, including issuing and managing proceedings, enforcement, and HCEO referrals.
  • Working knowledge of First-tier Tribunal landlord and tenant proceedings, including service charge and leasehold matters.
  • Previous experience within a law firm in a comparable debt litigation or leasehold practice area.
  • Understanding of the Leasehold and Freehold Reform Act 2024 and its implications for service charge recovery.
