I am currently supporting a well-regarded local authority that is seeking to appoint a Commercial Contracts & Property Solicitor on a locum basis to strengthen its legal team. This is a senior commercial role offering a varied mix of contract drafting, property transactional work, procurement support, and strategic advisory responsibilities within a busy and high-profile local government legal service.
The role:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts
- Advise on public procurement matters, including compliance with the Procurement Act and local authority governance
- Handle commercial property matters, including leases, licences, disposals, acquisitions, and landlord/tenant issues
- Support major projects, regeneration schemes, commissioning activity, and partnership arrangements
- Provide clear, pragmatic advice to Members, Officers, and project leads
- Manage a mixed commercial contracts and property caseload, contributing to service improvements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong post-qualification experience in commercial contracts within a local authority – Essential
- Experience in commercial property transactions, ideally within the public sector – Essential
- A solid understanding of procurement law and public sector governance – Essential
- Experience supporting complex projects, regeneration work, or commissioning activity – Desirable
