Spire Southampton Hospital is looking for an experienced and motivated Bank Porter to join our dedicated Facilities team. This role is essential in helping us deliver the highest standards of patient care and ensuring our hospital runs smoothly, safely and efficiently.

About the Role

As a Bank Porter, you will provide vital support across the hospital, including the safe movement of patients, equipment and supplies. You will work as part of a close-knit team, covering a range of shifts including days, afternoons and nights. This is a flexible bank position, ideal for individuals looking to balance work with other commitments while contributing to exceptional patient experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To transfer and guide patients safely around the hospital, as required, in a caring, sympathetic and professional manner.
  • Move clinical equipment, medical supplies, goods and other items as required.
  • Responsible for the safe management of the collection and disposal of waste, both domestic and clinical in line with corporate and hospital policy WM01.
  • Support clinical teams by maintaining a clean, safe and organised environment.
  • Respond promptly to portering requests and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patients, visitors and colleagues.
  • Uphold safety, infection-control and patient-handling standards.
  • Report any maintenance issues to the Maintenance department.
  • Complete additional portering and facilities tasks to support smooth running of the hospital.

  • Experience of working in a similar role and delivering frontline customer service.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.

  • Ability to work without supervision.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends.
  • Due to the physical demands of the role, including moving equipment and assisting with patient transport, you will need to be able to perform these essential duties safely.

Working Hours:

Shifts, 06:00 – 14:00, 14:00 – 10:00 and 10:00 – 06:00.

Contract Type: Bank, 0 hours flexible working.
