Spire Parkway Hospital have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Biomedical Scientist and Quality lead to join our Pathology department. Spire Parkway Hospital in Solihull, West Midlands offers a comprehensive range of private hospital services. Our hospital is rated Good by the CQC for all parts of the inspection except for Patient Care, which is rated Outstanding. The report states, “Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, took account of their individual needs, and helped them understand their conditions. They provided emotional support to patients, families and carers.” Our dedicated hospital team are passionate about excellent patient care and we offer a range of specialist treatments to patients across Birmingham, Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This includes diagnostic services, rehabilitation, cutting-edge surgical procedures and excellence in specialist fields like orthopaedics, women’s health and cancer care. We have 51 bedrooms and five operating theatres.
Duties and responsibilities:
- To assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services for spoke site Hospitals.
- To liaise with the Laboratory Consultant and the Pathology Manager, to ensure the provision of the high quality service in an efficient and cost effective manner.
- Take a lead role in the local implementation of the pathology quality management system, in accordance with UKAS requirements and corporate recommendations.
- To liaise with the National Pathology Quality Management Team in relation to local hub and spoke laboratory Quality Management systems and accreditation status.
- Participate in the pathology services multi-disciplinary on-call service after appropriate training and competence assessment.
- Maintain a safe working environment for self, colleagues, patients and others.
- Monitor work areas and practices ensuring they are free from hazards and conform to health and safety legislation.
- Work with the Quality Manager and other Quality Leads across Pathology to ensure compliance and maintenance of all aspects of the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Works flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of an on-call service.
Who we're looking for:
- HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
- Quality Management Qualification.
- Relevant NHS or Private Hospital experience.
- Work within a laboratory setting with frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions.
- Working within a performance driven culture while maintaining safe standards.
- Willing to travel on company business and to share expertise between hospital locations.
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday: (07:30-20:00pm), Weekends & Bank Holidays (09:00-17:00pm)
