Spire Nottingham Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Critical Care Manager to join the team on a Full Time permanent basis.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • To manage the Critical Care Unit and lead the team in the provision of care for patients in a safe and caring environment, in the most efficient and clinically effective way, whilst maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity.
  • To provide leadership, advice and support to other staff in the departments under the direction of the Director/Deputy Director of Clinical Services.
  • The Nursing Manager is responsible for the deployment, supervision and mentoring of staff within the clinical area supporting the senior hospital management team in providing clinical leadership.
  • Assess patients’ health and wellbeing across a complex and changing caseload.
  • Assist in the delivery of care to meet individuals’ health and wellbeing needs.
  • Provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information.
  • Develop own knowledge and skills and that of others.
  • Promote best practice in health and safety and security.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing services.
  • Contribute to quality improvement.
  • Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.
  • Apply technology for measurement, monitoring and treatment.
  • Deliver educational and assess competencies for Ward and CCU staff.
  • Audit of EWS and critical care required standards for Spire Hospitals.
  • Provide step down care from CCU to the Ward Environment.
  • Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with the Line Manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
  • Provide expert, high standard and holistic care to both critically ill patients and their relatives within Spire Healthcare.
  • Establish direct line management responsibility of Critical Care and provide Critical Care Outreach support to other clinical areas if required.
  • To provide leadership and establish organisational management within the Critical Care Unit.
  • Act as a Clinical Educator within Critical Care Unit and other identified clinical areas.
  • Responsibility for the daily management and daily running of the department, with support from the DOCS/DDOCS, ensuring safe provision of staffing that meets activity by workforce planning, monthly rostering and daily review.
  • Manage duty rota/annual leave and study leave, ensuring that, at all times, there is adequate clinical staff cover for area of responsibility and appropriate skill mix and competency required.
  • Participate actively as a member of the Hospital Resuscitation Team.
  • Participate in hospital Duty Manager and Senior on call rotas including weeknights and weekend shifts.

  • Post Grad leadership qualification
  • Masters level qualification
  • Experienced in acute nursing care within a CCU/HDU department.
  • Experience working in an acute hospital setting in a Senior Registered Nurse post or equivalent.
  • Experience of customer care, including interacting with challenging customers and situations.
  • Experience of rostering clinical teams to provide safe effective clinical care in line with labour guidelines.
  • Experience in mentoring and developing clinical staff to provide exceptional patient care.
  • Evidence of relevant professional development, both clinically and managerially, preferably evidenced by certification.
  • RN with valid NMC Registration.
  • Registered Nurse Level 1 / Diploma / BSc in Nursing Studies.
  • Up-to-date knowledge in area of practice.
  • Awareness of NMC Code of Accountability.
  • Recruitment and selection skills.
  • Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
  • Proficient in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
