Spire Leeds have an exciting role for an experienced Complementary Therapist to join the Cancer Services Department on a bank basis, this will suit candidates who are looking for that work / life balance with flexibility around the role.

The role of a Complementary Therapist plays a crucial role in providing holistic care to cancer patients and their loved ones by offering therapies that complement conventional medical treatments. The service aims to improve the quality of life, reduce stress, and support in reducing the symptoms associated with cancer and its treatment, such as pain, fatigue, and emotional distress.

Spire Leeds Hospital, located in Roundhay, Leeds, has been treating patients for almost 30 years. We are the region’s largest private hospital in terms of the range of services we offer and the number of consultants we work with. The hospital offers a range of services and facilities including four operating theatres, a sterile services department, a dedicated endoscopy suite, and a diagnostic and imaging department with an MRI and CT scanner. There are outpatient and physiotherapy departments providing services six days per week

Duties and responsibilities;

  • Provide a range of complementary therapies such as massage therapy,
  • reflexology, aromatherapy, or Reiki, tailored to the needs of service user.
  • Assess patients’ physical and emotional needs to create individualised therapy
  • plans.
  • Ensure therapies are delivered safely, considering the patient's medical
  • condition, treatment stage, and overall well-being.
  • Offer emotional support and a compassionate presence, helping service users
  • cope with the emotional impact of cancer.
  • Maintain accurate records of service user sessions, including therapy plans, outcomes, and any other relevant information.
  • Liaise with cancer support team at Spire Leeds to ensure collaborated approach to service users experience
  • Stay updated with the latest research and developments in complementary therapies, especially as they relate to cancer care.
  • Attend regular training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Who we're looking for

  • VTCT Level 3 Diploma or equivalent
  • Additional certification or training in oncology massage or cancer care is highly desirable but not essential.
  • A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a complementary therapist.
  • Prior experience working with cancer patients or in a healthcare setting is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the third sector
  • Experience of working in a small team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
