Spire Harpenden Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Business Administrator to join our team on a 15-hour per week contract. In this role, you will support the smooth running of administrative and financial processes within the hospital, ensuring compliance with Spire procedures while delivering an exceptional service to patients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to patient queries professionally and compassionately (both system-based and face-to-face)
  • Process billing accurately and promptly, resolving queries and liaising with internal teams and shared services
  • Carry out cashiering duties, reconciliations, and post entries to accounting systems
  • Coordinate payments for invoices, consultant fees, and patient refunds
  • Monitor overdue vendor debt and support collection processes
  • Provide general administrative support as required

What We’re Looking For

  • Education: GCSEs (A–C) in English and Maths.
  • Skills: Strong numeracy and Excel skills.
  • Experience: Accounts Payable, Purchase Ledger, or basic accounts experience (advantageous but not essential).
  • Behaviours: Passion for delivering excellent customer service, strong planning and organisational skills, problem-solving mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, effective communication and collaboration, high attention to detail and standards, ability to handle confidential information and adapt to flexible work processes.

Working Pattern

This is a part-time position (15 hours per week) with flexibility on how hours are structured. The role will be worked within standard office hours (8:00am – 5:00pm). We are open to candidates working 2 or 3 days per week, with flexibility on shift length (e.g. longer or shorter days). Working days are not fixed at this stage and will be agreed in line with business needs and candidate availability.
