Spire South Bank Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a Sterile Services Decontamination Assistant to join the SSD team via the temporary staffing bank. The suitable candidate will work in the department by cleaning, sterilising and packing theatre instruments. This role is physically demanding and involves heavy lifting.

Main duties of the job:

  • Undertake routine tasks related to individuals' health and well-being.
  • Check correct instruments are on trays pre and post decontamination.
  • Pack linen/instruments/consumables for sterilisation.
  • Complete tracking systems accurately.
  • Monitor repairs of instruments.
  • Check functioning of sterilising and decontamination equipment according to manufacturers' instructions.
  • Physical tasks including heavy lifting will also be required.

Who we’re looking for:

  • Certificate in Decontamination or NVQ level 3 in Decontamination.
  • Or TVQ level 1 & 2 in Decontamination.
  • Or City and Guilds Certificates in Decontamination / Endoscopy.
  • Self-Motivated.
  • Ability to work alone and in teams.
  • Basic awareness of health, safety and hygiene.
  • English language to IELTS 7.0.
  • Principles of infection control, fundamentals of microbiology and aseptic technique.
  • Knowledge of SSD machinery.
  • Knowledge of basic instruments and equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterile packing techniques.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards.
  • Ability to train and supervise Level I staff in all areas.
