Spire Manchester Hospital is looking for an experienced Receptionist/Administrator to join the admin team on a permanent, part‑time basis.
Contract type: Permanent, Part‑time
Working hours: 22.5 hrs per week; varied shifts Monday‑Sunday 6:30am‑8pm.
As Receptionist, you will be responsible for an exemplary level of customer service to all patients, consultants and hospital teams, presenting a high standard of personal appearance and total confidentiality in every aspect of work at all times. You will provide an efficient administrative service within the hospital, operating within established policies and procedures.
Duties and responsibilities (not limited):
- Providing an efficient administrative service within the hospital, operating within established policies and procedures.
- Welcoming, registering and directing patients, consultants and hospital teams in a proactive, warm, professional and caring manner to provide confidence and exceed customers’ expectations.
- Admitting patients to their room in accordance with hospital procedures, providing information as appropriate.
- Processing in‑patient/out‑patient charges, including accurate collection of credit card details over the phone and face‑to‑face.
- Supporting inpatient bookings by entering inpatient/day cases onto the computer system.
- Responsibility for admission lists, including allocation of admissions and liaising with nursing staff as appropriate.
- Admission/Discharge of patients onto the computer system ensuring accuracy of all information.
- Operating the hospital switchboard professionally and efficiently, ensuring timely response to all calls or enquiries.
- Undertaking various clerical duties including checking bed status reports, ordering and distributing newspapers, issuing badges for visitors and booking taxis.

- Experience in reception or a similar customer‑facing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships internally and externally.
- Strong focus on delivering and exceeding customer expectations, with the ability to handle difficult situations.
- Confident telephone manner and ability to communicate with a wide range of customers at all levels.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- IT literate and competent user of the MS Office suite.
