You will join a globally dispersed, multidisciplinary Space Reconnaissance team, collaborating with engineers, data scientists, and product specialists across multiple time zones. As we expand our non‑ITAR RFGL product portfolio, we are growing our Glasgow engineering hub and seeking a Full Stack Developer who thrives in a distributed, fast‑moving environment.
The Role
As a Full Stack Developer, you will design, build, and maintain the software systems that power Spire’s RFGL product suite. You’ll work across the full stack — from backend services and APIs to front‑end interfaces — ensuring our customers can seamlessly access, visualize, and interact with complex RF‑derived insights. This role is ideally based in Spire’s Glasgow office, one of our key engineering locations, and will collaborate daily with colleagues across Europe, the US, and APAC. You’ll contribute to the development of RFGL products, enabling rapid innovation and broad customer engagement.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain full‑stack applications that support Spire’s RFGL product offerings.
- Build robust backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that integrate with Spire’s space‑based data infrastructure.
- Create intuitive, performant front‑end interfaces for visualizing RF geolocation outputs and analytics.
- Collaborate with a globally distributed team to translate product requirements into technical solutions.
- Ensure code quality through testing, reviews, and adherence to engineering best practices.
- Contribute to architectural decisions that improve scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Monitor and optimize application performance in production environments.
- Support continuous integration and deployment workflows.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience in architecting and implementing cloud‑native solutions leveraging AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, S3, API Gateway.
- Experience in backend development using languages such as Python, Go, or Java.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Solid understanding of relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work effectively within a distributed team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of distributed systems, event‑driven architectures, or streaming data pipelines.
- Experience working with geospatial data, mapping libraries, or data visualization frameworks.
- Experience with infrastructure‑as‑code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience building and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs.
- Exposure to RF, signal processing, or satellite‑derived data products (not required but beneficial).
- Familiarity with secure coding practices and cloud security principles.
- Capable of using a distributed version control system such as Git.
Why Spire
- Work with cutting‑edge space‑based data and contribute to products with real‑world impact.
- Join a globally dispersed engineering team with opportunities for cross‑regional collaboration.
- Be part of a rapidly expanding team in Glasgow, one of Spire’s key engineering hubs.
Spire operates a hybrid work model, and this position will require you to work a minimum of three business days per week in the office. Access to US export‑controlled software and/or technology may be required for this role. If needed, Spire will arrange the necessary licenses—this is not something candidates need to have before applying.
