Through Spire Space Services, customers build and operate their own satellite constellations on top of Spire’s proven satellite, ground, and web infrastructure. As Director Infrastructure Programs, you will be instrumental in driving Spire’s next-gen Operations & Technology software stack for both our customer projects and our own constellation. We are looking for senior Program Managers with experience in managing large-scale IT infrastructure programs, ideally within Space, Defence, or similar industries.

You will be responsible for directly managing large-scale programs and leading a small team of Program Managers. You will oversee all aspects of program management from planning through execution and monitoring to completion, focusing on timely delivery, budgets, resource management, and scope control. You will collaborate with engineering teams and technical experts to drive innovation in both hardware and software.

The successful candidate will work with various stakeholders to ensure deliverables and milestones are met within scope and budget, managing dependencies across multiple teams and projects. This role involves coordinating across departments to align resources with program requirements.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop deep knowledge of Spire satellite, payload, and operations systems to support infrastructure programs in collaboration with technical teams and subject matter experts.
  • Support the definition and refinement of roadmaps, develop and present business cases, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and drive decision-making to mitigate risks and maximize benefits.
  • Manage daily program activities including scope definition, resource planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Proactively identify, quantify, mitigate, and resolve program risks, ensuring transparency throughout.
  • Coach, lead, and manage Program Managers to ensure business needs are met while supporting their professional growth and engagement.
  • Provide programmatic and technical insights to stakeholders, including peers such as the Director of Customer Programs and Director of Constellation Delivery, reporting to the Head of PMO.
  • Negotiate and influence to establish relationships that support successful program outcomes.

Key Skills:

  • Experience managing complex IT/SW infrastructure programs, preferably in defense, aerospace, or related industries.
  • Proven success in overseeing multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong business judgment, commercial acumen, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, with critical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Calm and flexible in ambiguous or challenging situations.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, capable of earning the confidence of engineers and executives alike.
  • Skilled in building consensus across cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with attention to detail and ability to multitask.

Preferred Skills:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) / PRINCE II certification or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Spire operates a hybrid work model; this position requires a minimum of three days per week in the office. Access to US export-controlled software and/or technology may be required. If needed, Spire will arrange necessary licenses—candidates do not need to have these before applying.
