As Orthopaedic Team Leader you will oversee a small team of around eight people and be supported by a Theatre Manager, a Deputy Manager, and other Team Leads. You will assist patients undergoing a variety of elective procedures, promote service improvement, and drive your career by completing the SFA course if you do not already hold it.
Responsibilities
- Support the Theatre Manager to lead, teach, counsel, and appraise staff to ensure development needs are identified and met; implement personal development plans.
- Supervise and educate junior staff, RGNs, and ODPs, and carry out clinical supervision.
- Contribute to the overall advancement of the Operating Department to promote excellence in clinical care.
- Act as a role model, demonstrating high levels of clinical expertise and delivering excellence in clinical care.
- Prepare the operating theatre room for surgery with appropriate instrumentation, equipment, and supplies, ensuring waste is minimized.
- Assess patients’ care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate programmes of care to ensure a high standard of care on every shift.
- Assess patients’ health and well-being across a complex and changing caseload.
- Develop care plans appropriate to the patient, considering the care pathway, perioperative risks, and their wellbeing.
Qualifications
- Experience working in teams with minimal supervision.
- Previous leadership experience is advantageous; training and CPD are provided.
- HCPC or NMC registration.
- At least two years of orthopaedic scrub experience.
- Completed SFA training is advantageous; willingness to undertake it within the first 3 years is considered.
- Passion and dynamic thinking ability.
