This role plays a key part in shaping and strengthening our safety culture within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. You’ll partner with leaders and colleagues across the business to proactively identify and manage risks, influence behaviours, and drive continuous improvement in EHS practices. Working closely with the EHS Manager, you’ll be visible on the shop floor, building trusted relationships and ensuring that safety, environmental and wellbeing standards are embedded in everything we do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and evolve a positive safety culture, encouraging learning from incidents and focusing on system improvements rather than blame
  • Advise managers and employees on EHS policies, systems and compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 standards
  • Conduct audits, inspections and risk assessments (e.g. PUWER, COSHH, manual handling), identifying improvements and ensuring actions are completed
  • Lead on incident, accident and near‑miss investigations, ensuring learnings are captured and shared
  • Analyse trends and KPIs, providing insight and recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • Deliver or coordinate EHS training, including inductions and behavioural safety initiatives
  • Engage with stakeholders across the business to influence and embed best practice
  • Proactively participate in shop‑floor activities (e.g. GEMBAs) to observe, coach and support teams
  • Support environmental initiatives and ensure targets are achieved across the site
  • Collaborate with external bodies including auditors and regulatory organisations
  • Play an active role in continuous improvement and behavioural‑based safety programmes

Experience

  • Previous experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing, engineering or heavy industry environment
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and leading incident investigations
  • Strong understanding of ISO standards (45001, 14001, 50001)
  • Comfortable working within a hands‑on, shop‑floor environment
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of UK health, safety and environmental legislation and its application

Desirable

  • Experience of behavioural safety and culture change initiatives
  • Environmental or sustainability knowledge/qualifications (e.g. IEMA)
  • Experience auditing ISO standards

Skills

  • Strong influencing and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels
  • Proactive and solutions‑focused mindset, with a continuous improvement approach
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to prioritise workload and deliver within tight timeframes
  • High attention to detail and commitment to compliance and best practice
  • Team‑oriented, with a genuine passion for health, safety and wellbeing
  • Confident in coaching, mentoring and challenging behaviours where needed

Benefits

You will receive a competitive salary (and a discretionary bonus), flexible working and excellent benefits including 27 days holiday allowance (before bank holidays), 3 days’ paid volunteering leave, comprehensive private healthcare, enhanced pension plan, life assurance, optional participation in a Share Ownership Plan, free onsite parking, flexible benefits, and access to a personal discounts portal.
