Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and motivated CAD Technician to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a CAD Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting the creation and development of technical drawings and designs that directly contribute to real-world engineering projects.
  • You’ll be part of a collaborative environment where precision, creativity, and continuous improvement are highly valued.
  • You will produce accurate 2D and 3D technical drawings using CAD software to support engineering and manufacturing requirements.
  • Supporting Watson Marlow Group by preparing drawings for new and existing products or components.
  • Supporting the sales team by developing practical design solutions to address customer requirements and challenges.
  • You will support sales costings and purchasing teams in sourcing suitable components and materials to meet project and customer requirements.
  • Interpreting design briefs, specifications, and technical information to translate concepts into detailed drawings for customers.
  • Updating and revising existing drawings to reflect design changes and improvements.
  • Check customer drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with internal standards.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across design, manufacturing, and assembly teams to ensure drawings meet practical and operational needs.
  • Managing and maintaining drawing records, ensuring all files are organised, stored, and easily retrievable.
  • Assisting in problem-solving by contributing ideas and adjustments to improve designs and resolve technical challenges.
  • Applying basic engineering knowledge and material understanding when developing and reviewing designs.
  • Using IT systems and tools to support documentation, reporting, and communication across projects.

Skills/Experience:

  • Established IT skills, with experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Sound knowledge of basic engineering principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings accurately.
  • Confident in reviewing colleagues’ work and providing constructive feedback to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively on projects and technical enquiries.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, both internally and externally.
  • Good organisational and time management abilities, with the capability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with creativity and innovation to develop effective design solutions.
  • Competent mathematical skills to carry out appropriate calculations.
  • Ability to organise, store, and retrieve technical drawings efficiently (training provided).
  • Basic understanding of materials and their applications.
  • Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks (preferred, though training can be provided).
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to decision-making, with the ability to update and revise drawings at short notice.
  • Strong design understanding, with the ability to visualise components and assemblies in both 2D and 3D environments (training provided).
  • High level of attention to detail, ensuring the creation of accurate, clear, and comprehensive technical drawings (with provided training).
