Key Responsibilities
- The NPI (New Product Innovation) Support Team is responsible for manufacturing prototype parts and specialist tooling.
- Using CNC machinery, CAD/CAM, advanced metrology systems & additive technology to manufacture and inspect new product concepts and develop robust manufacturing and inspection processes.
- Working with Design, Production and Process engineers to ensure that prototype components are manufactured to the highest quality and in a timely and efficient manner.
- Setting & operating CNC lathes & machining centres.
- Taking responsibility for day-to-day care & maintenance of machinery & ancillaries, including monitoring of coolant systems.
- Planning the manufacture of components to best suit end-user requirements.
- Involved in the inspection & measurement of prototype parts using conventional measuring instruments & state of the art methods such as a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine).
- Using additive manufacturing technology to rapidly produce prototype parts, fixturing & tooling.
- Discussing concepts with design, production & process engineers to advise on best practice for DfM (Design for Manufacture).
- Regular involvement in the design & manufacture of tooling & fixturing to enable component manufacture & aid with constant improvement of processes.
- Maintaining condition & stock levels of cutting tools used in the NPI workshop.
- Involved with the creation & implementation of working procedures to ensure efficiency & consistency is maintained.
Skills/Experience
- We welcome applications from both experienced precision engineers and motivated individuals eager to launch or build a career in hands-on engineering.
- Hands-on experience in mechanical, technical, or fabrication settings.
- Proven ability to safely operate, set up, and maintain machine tools.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and working from engineering drawings, technical sketches, specifications, or CAD models.
- Familiarity with precision metrology and quality checks.
- Exposure to CNC operations is highly valued; senior-level candidates will demonstrate independent programming/editing.
- Knowledge of additive manufacturing/3D printing and its integration with subtractive processes.
- Previous use of CAD/CAM software is advantageous.
