Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and motivated Team Leader (Convoluting) to join our dynamic team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, encourage and motivate team members in accordance with specifications, procedures and quality standards.
  • Provide leadership and supervision, supporting staff development through training, mentoring and regular one-to-one meetings and appraisals.
  • Ensure high quality standards are reinforced and maintained; manufacture product to meet customer delivery dates in a timely manner.

Safety

  • Actively report near misses and support improvement activities.
  • Work alongside the Department Leader to close out EHS concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with company and regulatory EH&S requirements.
  • Ensure personnel are fully involved in environmental, safety, health and ergonomic improvement processes.
  • Lead the creation of a strong safety culture and perform daily health and safety checks.
  • Conduct weekly safe behaviour audits, track EH&S metrics and issue monthly safety bulletins.
  • Set up and operate machine tools safely and efficiently.

Customer Focus

  • Consider what customers require and anticipate their future needs.
  • Support internal customers and facilitate smooth hand-offs.
  • Monitor department output to align with the master production schedule.
  • Respond rapidly to quality issues, process problems, labour shortages and machine breakdowns, taking appropriate actions.
  • Promote 6S activities within the workshop.

Excellence

  • Build cross-skill capability to support future growth and new product introduction.
  • Support GEM and EHS improvements within the department.
  • Define and produce SOPs that support business continuity.
  • Record and monitor scrap levels, implement actions to achieve KPI targets.
  • Conduct shift start-up and end meetings, review downtime sheets, and implement countermeasures.
  • Adjust production plans, review labour requirements and manage overtime.
  • Provide training and mentoring for operators and apprentices.
  • Manage unplanned absence, lateness, track attendance, conduct return-to-work meetings and raise issues to the Department Leader.
  • Address discipline and performance concerns, escalating to HR when necessary.
  • Conduct performance reviews and regular 1-2-1 meetings with team members.
  • Assign responsibilities, support new employee induction, and reinforce the ability to halt production when EH&S, quality or other issues arise.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed on time and identify root causes of problems for continuous improvement.

Collaboration

  • Ensure inclusive teamwork and positive relationships with suppliers and customers.
  • Support quality controls and aid the quality team on RCCT (Root Cause and Corrective Action) as required.
  • Engage with maintenance and facilities to maintain equipment and environment at the highest standards.
  • Ensure shift handover is completed and attend necessary operations meetings.
  • Participate in recruitment and review colleague ideas with implementation potential.

Skills / Experience

  • Experience with Lean manufacturing, ideally Yellow Belt or above.
  • Working knowledge of NEBOSH, COSHH or IOSH environments.
  • Experience with 5S or 6S processes.
  • Capability to investigate non-conformance and root cause analysis.
  • Leadership and people management experience.
  • Resilient and able to work under high pressure.
  • Effective communication across diverse groups.
  • Highly motivated with a focus on solutions.
  • Minimum apprentice training (City & Guilds, NVQ Level 4) or equivalent time served in a related discipline.
  • ILM or NVQ 4 in people management (or equivalent) and/or IOSH – Managing Safely.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word.
