Contract Length: Until 31/03/27
Location: Hybrid/London - 1-3 days per week, as required for business needs.

Responsibilities of the SEO Policy Officer
- Working at pace to provide policy input into complex issues arising from Afghan Relocation schemes, including those linked to the February 2022 data incident.
- Building constructive relationships with policy colleagues across client and with partners across London to advance policy objectives and influence cross HMG decision making.
- Developing high quality policy products, including ministerial submissions, briefing packs, and communications materials, on a regular basis.
- Confidently and autonomously managing a portfolio of policy work, with opportunities to brief senior stakeholders both in writing and orally.
- Advising on legal policy matters for ARAP cases, processes, and emerging issues.
- Providing policy input to the development and operation of the ARAP; ensuring that the policy develops to meet client’s needs, is well understood, coordinated across Whitehall, and is correctly applied by the team.
- Analysing a broad range of complex inputs and preparation of clear advice to prepare ministerial, legal, and senior advice and briefings as per the strategic, operational, and legal direction required within the Directorate.
- Engaging with the rest of the policy team, the Senior Leadership team in the scheme, including the relevant Deputy-Directors, so they are aware of issues and can provide senior input to decision-making.
- Ensuring good information management practices.
- Producing briefings for current issues such as high profile individual ARAP cases.
- Leading for the team on dismissals litigation and linking in with other teams on this topic.
- Liaising with cross-government representatives on ARAP and resettlement legal issues.
- Deputising for the G7 Assistant Head as and when required.
Skills / Experience of the SEO Policy Officer
- Previous experience of working in a policy role within central Government in particular developing policy solutions to novel, sensitive issues.
- Previous experience of writing policy papers/submissions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience of communicating credibly at senior levels, including providing high quality policy advice to Ministers both in writing and orally.
- Proven ability to quickly build constructive relationships with colleagues across a department and with partners in order to further objectives and influence cross HMG decision making.
- Ability to deliver good quality work at pace.
