Role: Portfolio Benefit Lead

Contract Length: 6 months

Pay Rate to Intermediary: £650 per day

Spinwell is recruiting for a Portfolio Benefit Lead for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

Responsibilities of the Portfolio Benefit Lead

Sitting under the team structure of the Portfolio Management Office (PfMO), the role holder acts as both the Portfolio Management and Centre of Excellence lead for Benefits Management and will:

1. Lead the creation and application of portfolio standards, including developing and managing benefits realisation plans, conducting post-implementation reviews, benefits mapping, profiling, planning, and tracking. This may include facilitating workshops and internal upskilling.
2. Drive the development of tools, templates, and guidance for benefits management at project, programme, and portfolio levels.
3. Own portfolio-level benefits management controls.
4. Champion best-practice standards in Benefits Management across the National Change Portfolio.

During periods of high demand, support may also be required for the Portfolio Planning and Resourcing Lead or the Portfolio Reporting and RAID Lead.

Skills and Experience of the Portfolio Benefit Lead

• Experience in senior management within a complex change portfolio.
• Ability to influence, negotiate, and challenge director-level stakeholders.
• Experience managing a team, fostering a collaborative culture, building capability, and promoting continuous learning.
• Supporting individuals with limited knowledge of programme or project planning and portfolio resource management.
• Managing suppliers and contractors, ensuring quality and value for money.
• Facilitating groups, balancing conflicting opinions, and building consensus.
• Providing coaching and guidance to ensure adherence to standards.
• Applying principles of benefits management using relevant tools and techniques across a portfolio of change.
• Providing effective challenge to support project and programme delivery.
• Resolving and escalating risks, issues, and conflicts within a complex change portfolio.
• Deep technical expertise in the area of specialism.
• Setting standards within large programmes or portfolios.
• Developing organisational capability and driving process improvements.
• Establishing and implementing benefits management processes within large programmes or portfolios.
• Applying programme and project management approaches such as MSP and PRINCE2.
• Qualifications in Benefits Management, Change Management, Portfolio Management, or related areas.
