Role: Civil Litigation Lawyer
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Location: Northampton
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: £60 per hour
Responsibilities:
- Representing the Council in criminal prosecutions and other proceedings in the Magistrates' Court, as well as proceedings involving the Council before the First Tier Tribunal (Property Chamber).
- Attend Licensing committees as required and advising panel members.
- Advising client departments, primarily regulatory enforcement areas.
- Supervising a small number of unqualified colleagues.
Skills / Experience:
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent research skills to effectively and confidently advise on a wide variety of legal issues.
- Post qualification experience in providing legal advice, representation and undertaking legal work in complex areas of law.
- Ability to act as an advocate before courts, tribunals and other hearings and to successfully represent the Council’s position at trial or dealing with other contested matters.
- Experience of working well under pressure to agreed objectives / targets.
- Experience of providing advice to Committees and Sub-Committees, or relevant comparable experience.
- Demonstrate effective use of Office 365 (incl. Teams, OneDrive, etc.) and legal case management systems, preferably IKEN Cloud, or willingness to undertake training during the probation period.
- Designated legal team knowledge - Knowledge of the legislation governing the service specific areas of the designated legal team.
- Legal Qualification - Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales or practising Barrister.
