Spinwell is recruiting for a Lawyer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LAWYER
- Providing high quality legal advice, assistance and representation to the Council on legal matters relating to one or more areas of law undertaken by the service.
- Advising on the interpretation and application of council policies, procedures and governance requirements to assist clients achieve their desired outcomes.
- Complying with quality assurance procedures, service level agreements and performance management requirements in order to meet the expectations of the clients.
- Contributing towards and encourage a culture of learning, knowledge sharing and excellence within Legal Services.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE LAWYER
- Qualified barrister or solicitor or experienced Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives with full valid practising certificate.
- You will be developing your legal knowledge in at least one area of law relevant to the team within which you are placed.
- You will be developing your knowledge of local government law and administrative/public law.
- Working in a legal environment providing advice on law, legal processes, governance frameworks and organisational policies and procedures.
- Working with sophisticated clients who may have very good knowledge of the legal framework upon which they are seeking advice.
- Providing several options to manage risk and achieve the same outcome.
- The ability to cope well and remain calm and professional under pressure and in difficult situations.
- Taking on new initiatives to develop and grow your own knowledge and ability and supporting colleagues to work together to develop solutions.
- Providing a risk-based, solution-focused approach to legal problems in order to facilitate the client achieving their goals.
- Providing legal advice in one or more of the areas of law dealt with the Place team or the People team (as the case may be).
- Confidently using case management systems and online resources to maximize efficiency and quality of advice.
- Keeping abreast of recent developments in local government law and one or more of the areas of law dealt with the Place team or the People team (as the case may be).
- Managing time effectively and planning own workload carrying a substantial case load which may include several complex and/or high value matters.
- Using resources efficiently, information and contract letting taking into account health and safety issues.
- Applying your specialist knowledge to practical issues presented by the client teams in order to provide high quality advice which enables the client to achieve their aims.
- Analysing and interpreting varied and highly complex information and developing strategies and solutions for the longer term.
- Using highly developed communication skills to present complex/sensitive information in an easily understandable way, adapting the style and tone for a range of audiences from lay clients to other legal professionals.
- Working independently within clear guidelines and regularly using your initiative to make decisions, referring to more senior officers for advice on policy/resource issues as appropriate.
- Carrying out work which has a high impact on the wellbeing of people, which could include enforcing regulations that have a high impact on people, adapting guidance on internal procedures and contributing to the development of policies and procedures which impact on the service and the service of the client teams.
- Co-ordinating with and training other employees where required including mentoring more junior members of the team within your own area of specialism.
