Spinwell is recruiting for a Practice Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PRACTICE MANAGER

  • Effectively manage the day to day operations and delivery services in Luton to achieve best outcomes for children, young people, families and victims and protect the public from serious harm.
  • Prioritisation, allocation and monitoring of workloads to ensure statutory and court requirements are met and children and young people, including those who pose a high risk of harm to themselves and/or the public, are appropriately managed.
  • Effectively manage risk and safeguarding within organisational delivery of the service in line with statutory requirements and local procedures to ensure staff, children and young people, victims and members of the public are kept safe.
  • Provide caseload management and individual practice support to staff across the service in line with professional standards to ensure effective management oversight of high risk cases is in place with regard to risk of serious harm and vulnerability.
  • Make effective decisions and recommendations, taking personal responsibility for any decisions made.
  • Ensure that the inputting and updating of electronic client records by staff is both appropriate and timely in line with Practice Standards.
  • Lead in the provision of specific areas of quality practice within the service.
  • Under the direction of the Deputy Head of Service, participate in the development of strategic objectives, service plans, national initiatives, partnership plans, policies and procedures. Act as operational lead in these areas.
  • Recruit, manage, provide professional supervision and appraisal, motivate and develop staff from a wide range of agencies taking account of varying employment policies and procedures, legislation, government requirements and best practice.
  • Represent the service in a variety of settings working with senior staff from other agencies and stakeholders, participate in national and regional forums providing specialist operational and occasional strategic advice.
  • Along with the Deputy Head of Service, be accountable for the performance of the Service and drive the delivery of improved outcomes as measured by an agreed set of indicators.
  • Responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children at all times.
  • Promote and maximise the welfare and safeguarding of children, young people (and their family members) and victims known to the service and protect the public from serious harm.
  • Increase awareness, understanding and confidence in our Services by other agencies and members of the public.
  • Deputise for the Deputy Head of Service and provide appropriate cover where necessary.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE PRACTICE MANAGER

  • In-depth experience in a setting related to working with young people in the statutory arena including experience overseeing operational performance.
  • Substantial experience of complex decision making within children/youth services arena with the ability to analyse information, draw conclusions and effect judgements based on outcomes and risk.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify causes and make objective, informed judgments that demonstrate emotional resilience and balance.
  • Proven ability to work effectively to ensure delivery within a multi-agency team (or teams) in a children’s social care service, achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
  • Demonstrable ability in partnership working, including collaboration with government, statutory, voluntary, and community organisations.
  • Ability to appraise and motivate staff in a way that ensures compliance with policies while also supporting individual development.
  • This includes the effective use of performance management to enable staff growth and ensure service delivery is achieved.
  • High level of communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Able to represent the Service to a wide range of individuals and professionals in different settings, building partnerships, persuading others, and gaining commitment.
