Overview

In this role you support the Acting Budget Manager to manage financial and accounting functions within the Department. You will help prepare and circulate budget schedules for diocesan leadership, upload budgets to SAP, and monitor quarterly funding and expenditure. You’ll also handle accruals, invoices, reconciliations, and reporting, collaborating with bishops and the Finance team to ensure accurate financial controls. This is a hands-on, cross-functional position with a clear impact on diocesan funds and governance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Acting Budget Manager in financial and accounting functions
  • Prepare annual budget schedules and illustrations for diocesan leadership
  • Upload approved budgets to SAP and coordinate quarterly bishop funding
  • Monitor bishops’ budget performance and respond to budget holder queries
  • Prepare monthly expenditure reports for Diocesan Bishops’ houses maintenance
  • Set up quarterly Legal Officers funding and maintain related data
  • Maintain Bishops’ Staff database and costing data
  • Process quarterly accruals and coordinate quarterly returns on SAP
  • Generate quarterly expenditure update reports using Excel and distribute to bishops
  • Maintain records of third-party recharge invoices and raise quarterly recharge invoices
  • Review and authorize quarterly pension contribution invoices for bishops and related offices
  • Complete quarterly high-level reconciliation of bishops’ funds and address queries
  • Carry out ad hoc financial tasks and investigations

Key requirements

  • AAT (or equivalent including QBE)
  • Experience with accounting/finance software (SAP, Oracle, SunAccounts)
  • Strong Excel skills (advanced functions, VLOOKUPs, tables) and Word/Outlook proficiency
  • Tact and diplomacy with bishops; clear written and oral communication
  • Logical, systematic workload approach; ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to adapt to transition from SAP to D365 during assignment
  • Confident to deputise for Budget Manager
