Spinwell is recruiting for a Building Control Surveyor for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BUILDING CONTROL SURVEYOR

  • Deliver high quality services to Peterborough in line with national quality standards, legislation, regulation, best practice, statutory obligations and organisational objectives through:
    • Securing the health, safety, welfare and convenience of persons in or about buildings and of others who may be affected by buildings or matters connected with building
    • Furthering the conservation of fuel and power
    • Preventing waste, undue consumption, misuse or contamination of water
    • Furthering the protection or enhancement of the environment
    • Facilitating sustainable development
    • Furthering the prevention or detection of crime
  • Proactive engagement with commercial clients to support income generation in line with the department targets and budget
  • Effectively engage with clients throughout the building control process to advise, inspect work and ensure all decisions and actions comply with council policy, legislation and regulations
  • Achieving customer satisfaction levels in line with national standards and best practice, to meet customer, partner, organisational and statutory requirements
  • Identify and take necessary action in relation to illegal/non-compliant work – enforcement and contravention

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE BUILDING CONTROL SURVEYOR

  • Current relevant building regulations and legislation, health and safety and licensing regulations and legislations
  • Private sector building control
  • National quality and customer service standards
  • Process plans and inspect all types of building development in line with current legislation
  • Effective delivery of performance in line with local and national targets
  • Delivering high quality services to both internal and external customers
  • Effective negotiation, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to achieve effective working relationships both internally and externally
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines
  • Monitoring and management of caseloads relating to enforcement, contravention, demolition, and dangerous structures
  • Effective and accurate report writing and inspection record keeping
  • Ability to provide training and support to junior members of the team (shadowing and mentoring)
  • Effective in both working as an individual (own case load) and as part of a team
  • Ability to create ideas and implement new ways of promoting the service
  • Broad range of IT skills including Building control and Planning Systems e.g. Uniform
  • Use of equipment in line with surveying and assessing compliance – Theodolite, moisture meter, thermal imaging camera, laser measure, endoscope
