This is a broad, legal role where you will provide practical, commercially focused legal and claims guidance on complex operational and contractual matters. You will work closely with internal teams across multiple jurisdictions, helping the business make informed decisions while effectively managing risk.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing in-house guidance on legal, contractual and operational matters arising both pre- and post-fixture.
  • Advising on charterparty interpretation, contractual risk allocation, claims strategy and dispute resolution.
  • Supporting sanctions screening, sanctions interpretation and wider compliance matters.
  • Assessing claims exposure and recommending pragmatic handling strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Managing assigned claims in collaboration with internal stakeholders, external counterparties, P&I Clubs and defence lawyers.
  • Reviewing contracts, supply agreements and purchasing agreements to ensure compliance with internal policies and risk frameworks.
  • Monitoring relevant legal developments, regulations and case law impacting the dry bulk shipping sector.

Experience required:

  • Advising on charterparties, commercial claims and dispute resolution within the shipping sector.
  • Strong understanding of contractual risk management.
  • Knowledge of sanctions compliance and international trade regulations.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence commercial decision-making.
  • The ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
