Spinnaker Chandlery is a family owned and run business with a long record of serving the community. Building and diversifying our product offerings since 1985, we now sell not only “bits for boats” but also a vast array of outdoor clothing, hardware and ironmongery, electrical and plumbing sundries, camping gear, tools, paint and much more. With 20,000+ product lines, we usually have what someone needs. We are dedicated to building a reputation for offering high quality goods for competitive prices with helpful and knowledgeable staff.
If a customer comes in with a vague description of what they want, we want to be able to offer 4 different options to solve their problem! If you like working in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, and would relish the chance to aid customers in problem solving that tricky project, we want to hear from you.
The role will include:
- Welcoming customers into the shop
- Actively engaging with customers and helping them find items they are looking for
- Understanding customer’s needs and wants and recommending items that they might want with particular focus on chandlery equipment
- Providing information about specific products, their uses and application (prior knowledge of sailing and general DIY useful)
- Building up rapport through conversation and honest recommendations
- Conducting point of sale transactions
- Processing stock deliveries and putting out on display/in stockrooms
- Regularly restoring order to, and replenishing, display stock
- Processing and packaging mail orders
- Keeping the shop in a clean and tidy state (hoovering, cleaning)
- Using your initiative to prioritise your workflow
- Handling complaints and returns or forwarding serious issues to the manager on duty
- Helping cash up and tidy the shop after it closes
Skills:
- Knowledge and experience of sailing/boating/watersports a distinct advantage
- Naturally hard working and friendly personality
- Familiarity using computer systems
- Ability to interpret or investigate the customer’s need, even if they use the wrong terminology
- Basic addition and subtraction skills
- Willingness to learn, especially technical details and specifics of products
- Good, oral and written communication skills
- A desire to use your initiative to solve problems
Location: Bembridge, Isle of Wight
