The predicted salary is between 13857 - 18499 £ per year.
You will train volunteers to support Spinal Injuries Scotland (SIS) members to connect with their families and offer guidance on using assistive technology to live independently and return to employment, education and training. Based at SIS’ office, you will report to the Peer Support Development Officer.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Train volunteers to help SIS members to use assistive technology for communication, independent living and returning to employment, education or training after a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI).
- Advise and support volunteers to access educational programmes, vocational qualifications and employment opportunities.
- Be familiar with and able to teach volunteers and members to use platforms including Amazon Alexa, Google home technology, voice activation & eye gaze and have an understanding of Apple & Android products & gaming products/technologies.
- Train, inform and empower volunteers to be able to make recommendations regarding the selection, modification and implementation of assistive technology devices and services for SIS members.
- Assign, check, maintain and report on flow of work by volunteers.
- Collect and analyse information about volunteers and members and their daily environments (e.g. home and workplace) in order to recommend appropriate assistive technology devices and services.
- Collate and report appropriate data on a weekly basis to support project monitoring and reporting.
- Maintain an inventory of assistive technology equipment belonging to SIS.
- Research best practices in the use of assistive technology devices and services to meet and support the needs of members.
- Encourage and promote the benefits of membership of Spinal Injuries Scotland.
- Support the Outreach Development Officer and Volunteer Development Officer as required.
Personal Specification
- Requires 3 to 5 years of work experience and/or an academic qualification (HNC/SVG level 3 or equivalent).
- Have a good understanding of IT systems / Android / Apple / gaming / environmental controls etc.
- Knowledge of technologies and services available to disabled people.
- Be able to work with people with complex needs and disabilities.
- Be an excellent communicator and confident in presenting, writing and speaking to a wide range of people in a variety of settings.
- Be understanding and supportive to meet the individual needs and wishes of each volunteer and member.
- Self-motivated and responsible for own workload, in coordination with the Outreach Development Officer.
- Be non-judgemental and able to respect individuals’ disability, cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds.
- Be outgoing, friendly, approachable and sensitive.
- Be able to use Microsoft Office Word, Excel and mobile apps and devices.
- Be willing to learn on the job.
This post requires Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Membership in relation to working with vulnerable adults. Awareness of GDPR in line with SIS policies and procedures. Applicants must have their own transport.
Experience
- Experience in training others in use of information systems.
- Experience or qualification in volunteer management and safeguarding procedures.
- Has a thorough appreciation of the opportunities new technology creates.
Teaching
- Ability to communicate with & assess non-literate & physically disabled individuals.
- Ability to assess & modify teaching delivery & materials depending on individual need.
- Ability to engage individuals in the learning process.
