We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer / Setting Out Engineer to join a major commercial construction project in Bristol. This is a long-term opportunity on a large-scale development involving extensive groundworks, infrastructure, drainage, reinforced concrete, and external works packages.
The role is with a well-established civil engineering and groundworks contractor known for delivering complex infrastructure, commercial, industrial, and residential schemes across the South West and wider UK. The business has built a strong reputation for quality delivery, technical expertise, and successfully managing large-scale groundwork and civils packages for major contractors and developers.
The Role
As Site Engineer, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of the project, taking responsibility for all aspects of setting out, surveying, QA, and engineering support across multiple work packages. This role requires someone confident working independently on site, supporting operational teams, and maintaining high levels of accuracy across all engineering activities. Strong CAD capability is essential, as the role will involve reviewing drawings, managing technical information, and supporting site teams with engineering coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out all setting out duties across groundworks and structural packages
- Establishing and maintaining site control points and benchmarks
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
- Using CAD software to review and manage engineering information
- Supporting site management and subcontractors with technical queries
- Producing as-built surveys and maintaining accurate records
- Monitoring quality and ensuring works are delivered to specification
- Supporting QA procedures, inspections, and documentation
- Assisting with programme coordination and sequencing of works
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer on commercial or civils projects
- Strong background in groundworks, drainage, reinforced concrete, and infrastructure works
- Good CAD knowledge and technical understanding
- Ability to work independently and manage engineering duties effectively
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Essential requirement: CSCS Card
- Setting out equipment can be flexible and discussed as part of the rate/package.
