We are seeking an experienced SHEQ Manager to join a growing infrastructure contractor delivering projects primarily within the water and wastewater sector. This is a key leadership role, responsible for driving safety, health, environmental and quality performance across multiple projects and operational teams. The successful candidate will bring strong water sector experience, a proactive approach to SHEQ leadership, and the ability to influence and embed best practice at all levels of the business.
The Role
As SHEQ Manager, you will lead the development, implementation and continual improvement of SHEQ systems and standards, ensuring full compliance with legislation, client requirements and industry best practice. You will work closely with operational, commercial and leadership teams to promote a positive safety culture and ensure high standards are consistently achieved across all sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all SHEQ activities across water and associated civils projects
- Develop, implement and maintain SHEQ management systems
- Ensure compliance with relevant H&S legislation, environmental regulations and quality standards
- Act as the key point of contact for clients, regulators and auditors on SHEQ matters
- Conduct audits, inspections and site visits, providing visible leadership
- Lead incident, accident and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis
- Produce SHEQ reports, performance data and trend analysis for senior management
- Support project teams with RAMS, permits, method statements and risk assessments
- Deliver training, toolbox talks, briefings and safety alerts
- Manage and mentor SHEQ Advisors and site-based safety staff
- Drive continuous improvement and promote a positive SHEQ culture
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience in a SHEQ Manager or Senior SHEQ role
- Strong background in the water / wastewater sector
- In-depth knowledge of UK H&S legislation and environmental requirements
- Experience managing audits, inspections and incident investigations
- Ability to influence and engage at all levels of the organisation
- Strong reporting, communication and leadership skills
- Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- Lead Auditor qualification (ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001)
- Experience managing SHEQ teams across multiple projects
- Experience working on utility or framework contracts
