Project Overview: You will be joining a fast-paced demolition project in Reading involving the planned demolition and site clearance of an old school building. This role is for the duration of a 4-month contract and will require strong leadership, hands-on demolition management expertise and effective coordination across site teams and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all onsite demolition operations and deliver works safely, on time and to specification.
  • Plan and manage demolition sequencing, programmes, traffic management and temporary works.
  • Oversee the safe removal of hazardous materials (e.g., asbestos handling protocols), soft strip and demolition activities.
  • Coordinate plant, labour and subcontractors to maximise efficiency and quality.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM, HSE, environmental and quality standards.
  • Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks and weekly reports to senior management and clients.
  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders and adjacent occupiers where required.
  • Monitor risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and site health & safety documentation.

Essential Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Site Manager in demolition projects, including soft strip and structural demolition.
  • SMSTS certification.
  • CSCS card (or equivalent construction qualification).
  • First Aid at Work (minimum one-day / FAW) qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of demolition methodologies, temporary works and safe systems of work.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience managing demolition in urban or constrained sites.
  • Experience working with principal contractors on education or refurbishment conversions.
