About the Contractor
You’ll be working with a specialist civil engineering and groundworks contractor known for delivering infrastructure, residential groundwork packages, drainage, foundations, roads, and external works across the South West. They partner closely with national housebuilders and developers, providing engineering support and technical delivery on new build housing schemes. Their teams are experienced, supportive and highly focused on delivering accurate, quality-driven work on fast-paced residential projects.
The Role – Setting Out Engineer (Residential)
This is a 2-week holiday cover assignment supporting a live housebuilding project in Bristol. The engineer will be responsible for setting out houses, plots, levels, foundations, drainage runs and road infrastructure while providing accurate site records and communication to the project team. An ideal short-term role for an engineer confident working independently on residential schemes.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting out for new build houses, including foundations, brickwork, blockwork and plot positions
- Setting out for roads, drainage, kerbs, services and external works
- Carrying out as-built surveys and keeping accurate site records
- Working closely with site and project managers to ensure precise delivery
- Checking levels, line, and specifications to ensure works comply with drawings
- Understanding and interpreting site plans, engineering drawings and specifications
- Daily reporting and communication with the site team
- Maintaining high standards of health & safety on site
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on residential developments
- Ability to work independently and deliver accurate engineering support
- Proficient with robotic total stations, GPS, levels (own kit beneficial but not essential)
- Strong understanding of housebuilding setting-out requirements
- Valid CSCS card – essential
- Available for 2 weeks in January
